End of year spiel:

In lieu of a topic, I wanted to briefly share information about a couple of organization’s I’ve recently become involved with. The first is Sulu DC:

“Sulu DC is an underground, grassroots network for Asian American and/or Pacific Islander American (AAPI)* artists, which provides a home for AAPI focused spoken word and multidisciplinary artists in Washington, D.C.”

There’s a December show, which I’m speaking at, coming up this Saturday; and I’d definitely encourage any interested individuals to attend. The other organization is Artists’ Bloc, which has been around for a couple of years, now:

“As a leadership organization, Artists’ Bloc is a collective of professional regionally based performing artists, arts supporters, arts administrators, and audience members united to raise the profile of their artistic community. Through the creation and management of programs, Artists’ Bloc provides support for artistic and administrative growth, resource development, advocacy, and innovation.”

In addition to a revamped website, and bringing me on board as membership director, there’s an exciting series of events happening in January.

Now part of why I mentioned these two, is because my initial intention with DC PAL was to highlight, connect, and publicize the work of individual artists in the DC area. The organizations mentioned above I feel are of a similar spirit and purpose, and are certainly ones I would have mentioned even if not directly affiliated with or participating in their events and programming.

That being said, message me with organizations, either established or not, which you feel provide support for the work of individual artists. DC PAL has reached a point where it’s grown as much as it can on its own, and what it provides you as far as marketing through social media, to other members of the DC Performing Arts community. In the new year, I hope to take this to the next step through partnerships with like-minded organizations and whatever benefits and opportunities those might lead to.
